Happiness Starts in the Morning
My favorite place in the world to reset, Casa Dom Ignacio in Abadiania, Brazil
“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most,” Buddha.
There’s one thing that every person on this planet wants more of—happiness. You know, the good stuff. Cheer. Delight. Lightheartedness. Well-being.
I’m obsessed with happiness. That obsession started in 2009 after a break-up left me feeling, well, terribly unhappy. How could someone or something I had no control of have such a stronghold on my happiness?
And so the journey started.
Countless books and travels to near and far places around the world pointed the way. The teachers, gurus, kindred spirits and even the charlatans I met along the way taught two similar things:
One: We can control our experience of happiness,
Two: Happiness is a process that can be practiced.
...And the best time to start is in the morning. Every morning.
When we want to be good at something- anything- we must practice. Over and over. The more we practice the better we get and this applies to happiness.
A few minutes upon waking is all it takes to fill the mind and heart with goodness and start to allow the beauty that’s vying for our attention to fill into our lives—the happiness. The lightheartedness. The well being. The good stuff.
Here’s a sneak peek into my current morning happiness practice. I invite you to try a part of it, all of it or use it as inspiration to create your own.
The uber fabulous Nadene Cherry, (@nadedecherry on IG) refers to her morning practice as her “morning sit.” I just love that. The sit is sacred. After some practice, your “morning sit” will produce your own kind magic- happiness.
Get You Some Goodness
Consistent happiness creates consistent momentum. This happiness practice changed my entire life and in large-part helped open me up to the inspiration of creating Orenda Skin Care.
I still have days when I want to hide under a rock and days when my inner animal wants to fight, but that’s ok. I always come back to my practice, confident that my happiness is mine to practice and a process that I can start every morning. I get to direct that and you can too.
Give it a try. You have every morning of your life to practice. There's nothing to lose and only happiness to gain.
Now go ahead and get you some.
